The Easiest, Fun-Filled Christmas Cookie Recipe with Cake Mix (Perfect for Kids!)
Rated 5.0 stars by 1 users
One of the best things about the holiday season is the joy of baking with loved ones, and this super easy and fun cake mix cookie recipe is my go-to when I want to make memories with my kids in the kitchen. Inspired by Sara Welch’s Cake Mix Cookies from Dinner at the Zoo, this recipe is an absolute crowd-pleaser. With just a few ingredients and the magic of cake mix, we’re able to create delicious, soft, and chewy cookies in no time at all. Plus, it's such a fun activity to do with little ones because it doesn’t require a lot of prep work or fancy equipment—just some mixing, rolling, and baking.
Why We Love This Recipe
Simple & Kid-Friendly: Using cake mix means fewer steps and less mess. The kids love helping pour and stir, and they feel like little bakers when it's time to roll the dough into balls and flatten them with a spoon.
Customizable for the Season: While the base recipe is fantastic on its own, my favorite part is definitely the festive touch of Christmas sprinkles by Spice Madness. These sprinkles add a pop of color and festive cheer to each bite. Plus, the kids love shaking them on top before we pop the cookies into the oven!
Here’s the best part—these cookies come out soft and just the right amount of chewy every single time. Plus, with the help of the cake mix, you skip all the usual hassle of measuring out flour and sugar. It's a major time-saver without compromising on flavor.
Ingredients
-
1 box of cake mix (any flavor—chocolate, vanilla, or red velvet)
-
Spice Madness Pure Vanilla Extract
-
1/3 cup vegetable oil
-
2 eggs
-
Spice Madness Christmas Confetti Sprinkles
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, vanilla extract, vegetable oil, and eggs. Stir until a dough forms.
Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 tablespoon each) and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Use the back of a spoon to flatten each cookie slightly. This is where my kids have the most fun! They love making little patterns with the spoon and of course, adding extra sprinkles.
Sprinkle a generous amount of Christmas sprinkles on top of each cookie.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let them cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Recipe Note
Don't be afraid to get creative with your sprinkles! Spice Madness offers a beautiful range of festive options—from red and green sprinkles to fun shapes like gingerbread men and snowflakes. My kids love adding a little extra sparkle to each cookie before baking. The results? A batch of festive, soft, and chewy cookies that taste just as good as they look!
